An Integral Coaching Approach

I employ a systematic methodology of personal and professional development, though it is as much an art as a science.  Integral Coaching includes all aspects of personal development–mental, emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual. By integrating personal development in these areas, within the greater context of professional development, this holistic approach provides an opening for powerful change and growth in the person and the organization.

The Process
Lasting, significant change happens over time.  A coaching program lasts a minimum of 3 months, and more typically 6-12 months.  After a thorough interview with a client, and the use of a variety of possible assessment tools, I design a customized program structured to create the outcomes the client desires.   

Some coaches meet with clients exclusively by phone.  I believe that face-to-face contact is greatly beneficial in establishing the best connection between myself and a client, and therefore prefer to meet with a client in person when possible. Although each situation is unique, I typically speak with a client between two and four times per month for an hour each time.

The program model typically consists of three distinct phases:

  • Assessment: Exploration and identification of values and coaching goals; professional assessments might include 360-degree Feedback, MBTI, Enneagram, etc. Click here for explanations of each.
  • Goal planning: Create a tailored professional development plan to achieve concrete goals
  • Implementation: Ongoing coaching with continual evaluation of program against benchmarks of development established during goal planning phase. 

The program of discovery and exploration is rigorous, and requires commitment by the client. It consists of a careful balancing of support and challenge that varies by client, and may include:

  • Self-observation and reflection
  • Reading
  • A dialogue designed to challenge and elicit insights
  • Practices to instill new habits and perspectives
  • A variety of carefully tailored exercises, some of which will be outside of a client’s comfort zone to inspire personal growth.

I also generally make myself available for a quick check-in with a client via phone or email as needed between sessions.
